Who We Are
The Charles R. Evenson Foundation is a private foundation dedicated to scientific, educational and charitable purposes. With a 501(c)(3) status, donations to the Foundation are tax-deductible. An all-volunteer Board of Directors governs the organization and carries out its work.
How We Work
We approach our grant-giving with a view toward the extraordinary.
Our Board of Directors seek out individuals and organizations who are achieving outstanding results yet are under-recognized for their work. Please note that we do not accept unsolicited funding requests but welcome nominations for innovative individuals and organizations whose work aligns with our mission.
We commit to address/eliminate inequities.
The Evenson Foundation celebrates the unique talents and perspectives that each individual brings to our shared work of protecting the planet and assuring the well-being of all of its inhabitants. We recognize that many barriers and inequities inhibit our ability to engage our collective intelligence in doing this work. We commit to act with integrity and empathy in order to do our part to break down these barriers and eliminate these inequities.
We incorporate actions that support equity and environmental justice in the operations of the organization. In doing so, the board will ensure that:

Board membership is representative of the communities served;

Its internal procedures assure an equitable approach; and

Based on a three-year average of grants made, an equitable distribution of funds will be made available each year to women, people of color and underserved communities in Western Michigan.
