MARY ELLEN MIKA

Mary Ellen Mika recently retired as Director of Sustainability for Steelcase, leading a global team of more than forty people spanning seven countries. She was responsible for the company’s overall sustainability and environmental regulatory compliance programs including those related to circular economy, net zero carbon strategy, and choosing and using resources responsibly. Other team responsibilities included energy and renewable energy procurement, Steelcase’s ISO 14001 environmental management system, sustainable supply chain programs, third party-verified product sustainability certifications, waste reduction and recycling efforts, and ESG/sustainability reporting.


Mary Ellen is a LEED-accredited professional and served on the Materials and Resources Technical Advisory Group for U.S. Green Building Council. She has a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology, and over forty years of experience in environmental consulting and industry. In addition to service on the Charles R. Evenson Foundation board, she also serves on the board of Michigan Energy Options. She recently served on the Michigan Environmental Rules Review Committee, the Grand Rapids Energy Advisory Council, and the University of Michigan Center for Sustainable Systems External Advisory Board.
