Sergio Cira Reyes, Climate Justice Catalyst

Sergio Cira-Reyes is a change-maker with a passion for environmental justice. A Mexican immigrant, Sergio grew up in Los Angeles before settling in Grand Rapids. His experiences growing up as an immigrant fostered his focus on community organizing with Movimiento Cosecha, the Latino Community Coalition and the West Michigan Latino Network. This work and a dormant passion for nature and the planet recently intersected when he started a local chapter of Latino Outdoors as he entered the environmental justice space. Sergio currently serves as the Climate Justice Catalyst with the Urban Core Collective, promoting BIPOC leadership in multiple systems. He works with local municipalities, grassroots environmental organizations, and other stakeholders as an equity partner, to challenge existing norms and beliefs which shape policies and programs that do not include BIPOC presence, input or leadership.
